Manual therapy (Manipulation, Mobilisation)

Manual therapy alleviates a broad variety of musculoskeletal conditions. This hands-on treatment is one of the most popular offered at the Institute of Sport Physiotherapy.

Joints and muscles are moved in different directions and speeds to regain movement. This treatment may involve muscle stretching, passive movements of the affected parts of the body, or having the patient move the affected area against the therapist’s resistance to improve muscle activation.

The Institute of Sport Physiotherapy approach

We employ evidence-based and hands-on physiotherapy. This includes a range of manual therapy skills, deep massage, mobilisation and manipulation techniques to reduce pain and improve range of motion.

Manual therapy is a non-invasive, and effective treatment modality for people enduring many common musculoskeletal problems, such as:

  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Sports injury rehabilitation
  • Prenatal and postnatal pain
  • Post-operative pain
  • Post fracture management
  • The correction of poor movement patterns
