Acupuncture & Dry needling

The Institute of Sport Physiotherapy has offered acupuncture to many clients over the years with encouraging results and feedback. From September 2019 we are excited to introduce a full-time Acupuncturist who specialises in both acupuncture and dry needling modalities.

Dry needling is a treatment modality where an acupuncture needle is inserted into a myofascial trigger point. Dry needling is a western take on acupuncture. Abundant scientific evidence supports the use of dry needling for alleviating pain and muscle tension.

Acupuncture is a complementary medical treatment that’s rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It’s based on principles of healing that are thousands of years old.

Both techniques are effective for alleviating pain and regaining muscle strength and mobility for many conditions, such as:

  • Acute and chronic back pain
  • Chronic neck pain
  • Tension and migraine headaches
  • Lateral elbow pain
  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Knee osteoarthritis
